“Yn, are you even listening?”
You jumped, your pen skidding across the notepad. “Huh? Yes! Totally. The... uh... quarterly reports. Very important.”
Jungkook, your boss, stared at you from across his massive, way-too-clean desk. His tie was perfectly straight, as always. He looked like he’d never had a messy thought in his life.
Jk- “The quarterly reports were last month. I’m talking about the client dinner tonight. The one you absolutely cannot be late for.”
Yn- “Right! Tonight. I’ll be there. Super on time. Not a second late.”
You gave him your best, most professional smile. He just sighed, a long, tired sound that made you feel two inches tall.
Jk- “Just... be there by 7, Yn. Don’t make me call you.”
As if he ever called you for anything fun. His calls were always, “Yn, my coffee is cold,” or “Yn, this file is in the wrong order.” So strict. So..bossy.
You scurried out of his office, collapsing at your own much smaller, much messier desk. Your best friend, Mina, was leaning over from her cubicle.
Mina- “So? Did he fire you?”
Yn- “No. But he gave me the Look. The ‘I’m-disappointed-and-you’re-a-chaos-goblin’ look.”
Mina- “Oh, I love that look. It means he cares.”
Yn- “It does not! It means he’s dreaming of a world where his assistants are all robots. I bet he’ll be the worst husband ever. Can you imagine? ‘Darling, your emotional outburst is not on the schedule for today. Please reschedule for next Thursday.’”
Mina laughed while you mimicked his deep, serious voice. You couldn't help it. Everyone in the office thought Jungkook was some kind of god—handsome, brilliant, successful. And he was! But you’d also seen him reject a document because the font was “too frivolous.” Who does that?

Later that evening...
The sky was turning a nasty shade of grey as you rushed out of your apartment. Of course, you were running late. Your hair had decided to rebel, and you’d spilled soup on your first-choice blouse.
Yn- “Stupid traffic, stupid rain, stupid perfect Jungkook...”
You muttered to yourself, tapping the steering wheel impatiently. The first drops of rain hit your windshield just as your car made a weird choking sound. Then, a clunk. Then... nothing.
The engine had died. Right in the middle of a road that was getting darker and emptier by the second.
Yn- “No, no, no, no! Please, not today!”
You tried the ignition. It made a sad, whirring noise. Nothing else. The rain started coming down harder, pounding on the roof. You were stranded. And you were going to be so, so late.
Fumbling for your phone, your heart sank. No signal. Zero bars.
Yn- “You have got to be kidding me!”
You rested your forehead on the steering wheel, fighting back tears of frustration. This was it. He was going to fire you for sure. You imagined his stern face. “Yn, your inability to command a functional vehicle is not in your job description.”
A sudden, bright light flashed in your rearview mirror, blinding you. A car pulled up behind you. A very expensive, very familiar black car.
Oh no.
The driver's door opened, and a figure stepped out, holding a briefcase over his head against the rain. Even silhouetted in the gloom, you recognized the broad shoulders and that stupid, perfect posture.
He tapped on your window. You rolled it down, a gust of cold, wet wind hitting your face.
Jk- “Yn.”
His voice was flat. Unreadable.
Yn- “Mr. Jeon! Hi! My car, it just... stopped.”
Jk- “I can see that. We’re going to be late.”
As if that was the most important issue here! Not that you were two people alone on a creepy, dark road in a storm.
Jk- “Get in my car. We’ll call a tow truck from somewhere with a signal.”
You didn’t have much choice. You grabbed your purse and practically fell out of your car, the rain immediately soaking your nice clothes. You scrambled into the passenger seat of his luxurious car. It smelled like leather and his cologne. Of course it was spotless.
